Monounsaturated Fats (MUFAs) are good fats, they lower total cholesterol and LDL cholesterol , while increasing HDL cholesterol. Polyunsaturated Fats are also good fats that lower total cholesterol and LDL cholesterol. Omega 3 fatty acids belong to this group.
Bad Fats are fats we want to avoid. Saturated fats are bad fats and are known to raise total blood cholesterol as well as LDL cholesterol. Saturated fats are mostly found in food from animals, but also some plants. Meats such as beef, veal, lamb, pork, poultry are high in saturated fats. Dairy Products such as butter, milk and cheeses also contain saturated fat. Plants with high saturated fat contents are coconut, palm oil as well as cocoa butter.
